World

Who in the world are we anyway?

Well, we are glad you asked.
We are Freddy, Deborah and Ken.

For those of you who do not know us, we are a family of missionaries under appointment with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. We have served as Southern Baptist Missionaries for nearly 15 years. We served in Japan for nearly twelve years before feeling led to transfer to Latvia after the fall of the iron curtain.

Who is Freddy?

I was raised in Tallahassee, Florida. There I attended Rickards High School and later Florida State University where I majored in Communications. Two weeks after completing FSU, Deborah and I were married. I worked for two years in Tallahassee, first as a photographer, then as a retirement benefit specialist for the State, while Deborah finished FSU.

We then moved to Fort Worth, Texas and attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where I received my Master of Divinity degree. After seminary, we moved back to Tallahassee where I became the pastor of Sabal Palm Baptist Church. I served there two years before we felt led to enter foreign mission work and moved to Japan. After one term on the field, I went back to Southwestern Seminary, and received my Doctor of Ministry degree.

I have a number of different interests. Besides my interest in photography, I am very interested in sports. I took up scuba diving while living in Okinawa. Now, living in Latvia I am training in karate. I also love music and play the guitar.

Who is Deborah?

I was born in Mississippi in a pastor's home. However, when I was eight months old my father took a pastorate in Tallahassee, Florida and served there 22 years. That was long enough to get my life intertwined with Freddy, who's family attended that church. I also attended Rickards High School and later Florida State University where I studied Child Development and Early Childhood Education. When we moved to Fort Worth, I also studied at Southwestern and received my Master of Divinity degree.

I have been interested in music from the time I was a child and have played the piano since that time. I have served as church pianist in numerous churches.

My interests are also quite varied. Piano is my favorite thing to do. But I also enjoy sewing. I have taken up maching quilting and especially enjoy that.

Who is Ken?

I was born in Japan and was adopted by Mom and Dad as a baby. I actually entered the family when I was only twelve days old. I just turned 8 years old in January and am in the second grade. I like school a lot. I have learned how to read already and enjoy that a lot.

There are a lot of things I like to do. I am also studying karate, like my Dad. Recently I passed my test to become a yellow belt.

I am also studying violin. I have been interested in playing it since I was 3 years old, and actually began when I was 6.

I love to ride my bicycle and play with my friends. My favorite toys are Legos and my Power Ranger toys. But I have other toys I like a lot, too.
