Many people have the idea that it is a complicated process to know God. They think that you have to do all kinds of hard things or live a sinless life, or become a Bible thumping fanatic or ___________ (There are so many things that people think are necessary. You fill in what you think here). But, it is actually not so complicated. In fact, it is God's purpose that everyone in the world understand and do it, so he intentionally made is simple. There are a few things you need to know and one thing you need to do. Read on and see how simple it really is.

• Things you need to know

  1. God is holy and cannot be in the presence of sin.
     Rom 8:6-8
  2. We (as human beings) are sinners (Rom 3:23) and therefore separated from God. Rom 6:23
  3. God loves us and has provided a way for us to overcome the sin problem and enter a personal relationship with Him. John 3:16
     • God himself came to earth in the form of the human being named Jesus Christ.
     • He taught, through human words and deeds, what He wanted us to know about himself and how to know Him.
     • He lived a perfect life (a life without sin) which made Him eligible to become a sacrifice for our sins.
     • He died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice (He accepted the death penalty for sin in our place).
     • He rose from the dead, proving that He had the power and authority to accomplish our salvation.
  4. Each individual must personally accept the provision God has made. John 1:12

• What you need to do

  • To accept the provision, you must tell God you are sorry for the offences (sin) you have committed against Him. Then, by prayer, personally invite him to become the Master of your life.

    Now this is THE KEY POINT and is actually a very simple matter. You see, since God is alive, it is possible to communicate with Him, personally. From your heart simply utter a prayer similar to this:

    Heavenly Father, I recognize that I am a sinner and because of that I am spiritually separated from you. I acknowledge the fact that I am a sinner and ask you to forgive me. Please, come into my life and become the master of my life.

    Thank you that you are faithful to keep your promise and have come into my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.

    It's as simple as that! God is true to His word, and if you sincerely asked Him into your life, He has actually proclaimed you not guilty of sin.

    

    What to do next

    There are several things you can do to help you get going on your new life in Christ.

    1. Get a Bible and read it (try beginning in the Gospel of John).
    2. Find a church where the people are willing to help you grow in your spiritual journey.
    3. Spend time every day conversing with God (prayer, in other words).
    4. Tell your friends about the wonderful discovery you have made in your life.

An offense of any kind against God (can be a thought or an action).

This is what is referred to as death. It is not physical death, but spiritual death or separation from God throughout all eternity.

We deserved to die (spiritually), but Christ took our place.

An objective judgement or declaration by God that the penalty for our sin has been paid and we do not have to receive the sentence (spiritual death) for it.

These days it seems that everyone wants to be sure about things before they make a decision, you know, take a test drive. It is difficult to do that with spiritual things, because we are talking about things that cannot be seen with physical eyes. I have found a website, however, that will allow you to CHECK OUT HELL before you decide (or allow yourself) to go there. This is a really cute site, but the message comes through loud and clear.
